My rating: 4 of 5 stars
The Giver was written by Lois Lowry and published first March 29th 1993 , its a Science Fiction book for young adults. This book won the Newbery Medal for their book. This book is a Paperback that has 179 pages. It took me a few days to read this book. The main characters are: Lily, Fiona, Father, Asher, Jonas and The Giver.
The main character Jonas has to make the decision whether he wants to stay getting his teaching of feelings & colors. The problem is that he doesnt want to leave his brother Gabe behind to die. The bad guy is his father because he kills premature babies. Jonas had to choose whether he wanted to stay inpain or leave and not know what his future will bring.
The themes of this book are about family, love, pain, and feelings. The author is trying to show you how life would be without pain, war and fear. Where everything is controlled by your government, and everything is under control. The characters make the decisions that i disagree with is, the elders make all decisions for them, they pick your future and kill the babies if they're small. If it was up to me i would let the people make their own decisions and never kill infants.
When Jonas ran away with Gabe because he was going to be put to death he did a good thing to run away so Gabe wont die.
I like that at the end of the book you never know what really happens, and their isnt a part two.
I dont like that the book is a dicontinued story.
You should read this book for many reasons. One reason is that it shows you how a different world would be. Another reason to read this book is because its very detailed. Im happy I got the chance to read this book, and if you were to read this book you would too.
